What Did The Critics Think of Hamilton in Indianapolis?

Now playing at the Murat Theatre

Lin-Manuel Miranda's historic musical, Hamilton, has finally arrived in Indianapolis! The mega-musical has been taking the world by storm, but what did the local critics think?

The IndyStar was full of praise saying that the production was "worth the wait", continuing with praise for its cast with "Joseph Morales interrupts Alexander Hamilton's rugged earnestness with bouts of humor when he asks if he's talking too loud ("My Shot") and later kneels and points to the sky with fanboy excitement when he's chosen to attend the Constitutional Convention. Nik Walker, as Aaron Burr, delivers many of the laughs with his polished advice - 'Talk less...Smile more' - that jabs at his adversary."

The Indianapolis Monthly was also full of praise for the talented cast, saying, "Instead of casting actors who most closely resemble their now-nearly-legendary original cast counterparts, the Hamilton producers embraced actors with different looks. They allowed room to tweak the songs in different ways - nothing extreme, but still. And they gave them room to find their own way to complete the characters as written." They finished with, "Newcomers may struggle a bit to catch all of the wordplay, but will nonetheless be experiencing an uncompromised, very much alive rendition of this new American classic."

What is Hamilton about?

One of the Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton's story is an extraordinary one. Born out of wedlock in the West Indies, and orphaned by the time he was 11, he arrived in New Jersey in 1772 to begin his grammar school education. From there he played a major role in the American revolutionary war, rising through the ranks to become an aide to George Washington. But that was only the beginning of the great man's story, with the proceeding chapters in his life taking in everything from sex scandals, fatal duels and the creation of the American Constitution.

Hamilton is now playing at the Murat Theatre through to December 29
